I’ve been messing with NFTs for like two months now and this is the impression that still lingers with me:
That the part of me that likes minting NFTs on scatter.art is the same part of me that likes spending $5 to $15 on blind boxes when I go to the mall with my gf.
But NFTs are a little better:
- They let me hoard while keeping my physical environment minimal
- I might be able to sell them back
- Supporting independent artists is cool, and I’d rather support them through minting than through the commission-based slavery I see on the rest of Twitter
- Identifying with them is part of the fun
But blind boxes bought from a mall aren’t so bad:
- Maybe some of their qualities can influence an NFT collection
- I don’t mind having a little shelf devoted to plastic figures of my favorite brand name characters
- I’d rather be a consoomer for little tiny figures than some other things
